You have been preparing to move for so long and the moving day is here. On this day, make sure you get an early start. Remember, the earlier you move in your new home, the more time you have to unpack and settle in the new home. Weeks before moving, you have already prepared everything and determined what is to be packed, and if it is packed now it’s time to start the move:
- Get an early start
Rise up early and take a shower no matter the time your movers are scheduled to arrive. The best moving companies arrive on time and its better if they don’t catch you off-guard. If it is a timed move (Paying per hourly), then it is best to get the items you can carry as closest to the exit doors as possible. Th more organized your items are packed and ready to go, the less time the movers will take to get the items all neatly into their moving van or lorry.
Also, if you live in a flat with a busy lifts, try to put a sign (with permission obviously) that the lift will be in constant use as you are moving and sorry for the inconvenience caused.
- Pack the last-minute items
You had packed everything before the moving day, but there will still be a few things left for you to pack on that day. After shower, pack all the bathroom items, kitchen perishables and any other stuff left. Throw away the things that might go bad or melt during the move.
- Do a final sweep
Go through your house for the last time before your moving company arrives. Visit every room and check the closets, storage spaces and cabinets. Don’t forget the basement, driveway, and attic or your guest house if you have a huge house.
- Your Small Valuables
Make sure you have all the small valuables that may be lost during your important move all in one place and personally looked after. Our advice? If you have a car, take all your small valuables like jewelry, phones, laptops, tablets, expensive gadgets etc. and keep securely in your own car when moving. This will save you a lot of hassle having to call the moving company after they have left asking if they saw a jewelry box or some expensive looking small box. And if they said ‘no’?
- Keep an empty bag or box handy, together with your tool box
Even though you may not be dismantling a living room furniture or bedroom furniture, it good to keep your tool box handy together with a bag or box for safe-keeping small screws, hooks, bolts, handles and bases etc. during minor dismantling to enable, for instance, a sofa or bedframe or cabinet pass through a narrow corridor or door. As simple as it may sound, these things are time consumers especially if you are on a timed move. Moreover, you don’t want to get to your new home and find out that a screw or bolt is missing and hence you cannot couple back your sofa or bed.
